My name is Ben Garves and today is Monday, the12th of August, 2019.

According to an article on The Barbell Spin, CrossFit Strength In Depth, the London-based Sanctional has struck a deal with local competitions. This “UK Event Alliance” will grant Strength in Depth invites to the top teams at The Glasgow Classic, Unite Fitness Festival, BFMG Winter Soldiers Mixed Fours, and Strength in Depth Origins events. Visit thebarbellspin.com for more details.

Don’t forget that details have been released about the 2020 CrossFit Open, which will start with a workout announcement on the 10th of October. The open is being embraced by a number of Sanctional events as an official qualifier. In this new system, the season starts with the Open in October, followed by almost 30 sanctional events, and ends with the CrossFit Games in August. Register for details at open.crossfit.com

Ben Smith, the 11-time consecutive CrossFit Games competitor weighed in on the cut system on Instagram. Smith said, “I like the idea of cuts, they did it in my first games in 2009. It makes things exciting and also puts some pressure on each event as an athlete (which I don’t mind).”

Smith goes on to say, “The tests leading to the cuts should be balanced in typical “CrossFit” fashion, the mono structural tests should be later on after all cuts are made.” Which is exactly as Dave Castro programmed the 2019 CrossFit Games.

As for the larger field and new national champion system, Ben wrote, “I also HOPE 5 years from now you will see good competition coming from all over the world. The bigger field and more representation seems like a long term move (or a business move possibly?) but my hope is that it only grows the sport in the long run! Everyone I met this year was super cool in the old school crossfit mentality type of way. I left this games with many positives and am going to be rolling into next year with some strong momentum!”

Brittney Kleyn at Morning Chalk up looked at the history and growth of FitAid. The company gave out over 40-thousand beverages at the 2019 CrossFit Games and now employs 75 people. To read the full article, visit morningchalkup.com

Chad Schroeder, also with Morning Chalk Up, looked at over 50 notable statistics and records from the CrossFit Games. For example, with the move of Mat Fraser and Tia-Clair Toomey to Cookeville, TN this year, CrossFit Mayhem became the first affiliate in the history of the CrossFit Games to be the official gym of the Male, Female, and Team champions – with Fraser, Toomey, and the CrossFit Mayhem Freedom team featuring Tasia Percevecz, Rich Froning, Dre Strohm, and Chyna Cho.
