TOUCHDOWN. I pulled into my destination around noon yesterday: Silver Beach Resort on Waitt’s Lake. It’s about an hour outside Spokane, Washington, and the owners (*ahem* my parents) have been gracious enough to allow me the use of their RV spots and resources to kick off the trailer remodel.
Immediately after unloading, I started assessing the situation. Looks like I got screwed by the seller: during the drive, panels of aluminum siding started to separate from the trailer’s wood frame. I removed some of the panels and…looks like about a quarter of the trailer has had its frame rotting from a bad bad man who wasn’t taking care of it. That’s cool. I’ll just have to show it the TLC it needs and deserves. I’ll keep you posted: I have until the first weekend of November to get back down to Austin for a special birthday party. Then, I’ll start preparing to hit the road for these CrossFit Sanctional events.
Enough about me, though, how about you? Let’s talk about the reason you’re really here: news about CrossFit. We’ve got a lot of news from all over the place.
First, let’s send a congratulations to Tennil and Tyler Beuerlein, who gave birth to little 7-pound, 11-ounce Baustin Tate Beuerlein. Although, let’s face it, Tennil did all the work.
Also in the land of female athletes with names starting with the letter “T”, Thuri Helgadottir is competing today in the International Weightlifting Federation’s World Championships. Helgadottir is representing Iceland in the 59kg category of the event, being held in Thailand.
Four-time consecutive fittest man on earth Mat Fraser hopped onto the Today Show in Time’s Square to share some tips on how to stay fit year-round. Check the show notes at bengarves-staging.mystagingwebsite.com for a link to the video.
CrossFit Games athlete Bronislaw Olenkowicz was on the cover of Poland’s Men’s Health magazine. If you don’t follow Bronislaw on Instagram, I recommend you do it. He does some crazy things. I won’t ruin the surprise.
Torian Pro, one of the biggest events operating without CrossFit Sanctional status, has announced they’ve sold out their 4,000-seat venue and are moving to a 5,000-seat venue. The event has attracted top-level talent due to their outstanding reputation. Confirmed athletes include Rich Froning, Tia-Clair Toomey, Chyna Cho, Tasia Percevecz, Royce Dunne, and James Newbury.
Katrin Davidsdottir will be speaking at the ESPN W Women + Sports summit on their World Class Athlete panel. She’ll be alongside wrestler Becky Lynch, another athlete using CrossFit as a part of her training and gold medal tennis player Monica Puig.
Reebok has launched a full line of fitness clothing for maternity. Way to go, Reebok! You can check it out at reebok.com/us/maternity. It makes me think of Kara Saunders doing a demo during a CrossFit Open workout announcement while six months pregnant and demolishing the other, notably less-pregnant, athletes.
And that’s it for news about CrossFit on Friday, September 20th. We’re headed into the weekend, so unless someone breaks the internet, I’ll talk to you on Monday. Thanks for listening. Be sure to rate, review, subscribe. I’m Ben Garves.
