CrossFitter Angelo Castricone: “Labor of Love” Reality Show

-

Labor of Love is the latest network show to feature a CrossFit athlete, Hunter McIntyre misses his Murph goal, we peek at the Dubai CrossFit Championship’s online competition leaderboard, and we close with the latest video from Dave Castro on the 2020 CrossFit Games.

Good morning and welcome to the WODDITY podcast for news about CrossFit. We are a daily podcast, Monday through Friday, doing CrossFit news in five minutes or less.

My name is Ben Garves and today is Tuesday, the 26th of May, 2020. Don’t forget, links to all of these stories are in the show notes of your friendly neighborhood podcasting app, as well as on the new WODDITY.com.

2013 CrossFit Regional Athlete on Labor of Love

The lead story this morning is not my favorite kind of story – it’s another major network television dating show with a ridiculous premise, using the term “CrossFItter” as the sole description of a contestant, like it describes his personality or something. The problem with this is, once that individual behaves like an ass, people assume that’s the way of CrossFit. Like how Luke Parker on the Bachelorette did all of us a disservice last year.

This show is called “Labor of Love” and is described by Fox as:

“In this dating reality show with a twist, a woman who is ready to start a family, but has yet to meet the potential father of her children, decides amongst aspiring fathers-to-be who go through challenges that put their parenting and partnership skills to the test. Each week, the mother-to-be, with the help of host Kristin Davis as her sounding board, decides who advances to the next week and gets another chance to prove themselves worthy of starting a family with her. Otherwise, she may choose to continue on the path to motherhood on her own.”

The flavor of the week for this show is Angelo Castricone, who is being advertised as a CrossFit Games athlete. Unfortunately, he’s actually a 2013 CrossFit Regional team athlete, having competed on team I Am Grove in the 2013 South East regional, taking 6th at the event.

DCC Online Competition Leaderboard Update

Tied at the top of the Dubai CrossFit Championship online competition leaderboard after the first week is Sara Sigmundsdottir and Carolyne Prevost, with 142 reps of alternating single-arm devil presses. One rep back, in third place, is Sam Briggs. On the men’s side we have some less-familiar names at the top: Aleksandr Ilin, Solodov Stanislav, and Colton Mertens with 156, 152, and 146. You can stroll down to find your boy Ben Garves in dead last with a whopping 39. And I’m not even embarrassed.

Hunter McIntyre Murph Time

Obstacle Course Racing world champion and 2019 CrossFit Games wildcard Hunter McIntyre set out with a goal to complete Memorial Day Murph in under 30 minutes and has been documenting the journey on his YouTube channel. It all came to a climax on Saturday, as he made his record attempt, completing Murph in 34:38. He followed up on YouTube saying he was humbled by the experience, but I’m pretty sure we’re going to see him back and breaking that barrier in the next couple of days.

CrossFit’s “The Events” Video

To close things out, and in the tradition of our last few podcast episodes, CrossFit has continued its series of short videos about the 2020 CrossFit Games. Those videos, “Tough Decisions” and “The Test” have been joined by a third video this weekend titled “The Events”. So, without further ado, and audio courtesy of CrossFit, this is Dave Castro in The Events. Thanks for listening and we’ll chat tomorrow.
