The South China Morning Post ran a poll of 20 journalists to see who would be the favorites to win the 2020 CrossFit Open. On the men’s side, four-time fittest man on earth Mat Fraser is expected to once again reclaim his 2019, 2018, 2017, and 2016 title at the top of the global online competition. Noah Ohlsen, the second-fittest man on earth, took 19-percent of the vote. The other two men to receive votes were Bjorgvin Karl Gudmundsson and Ant Haynes.
On the women’s side, things were a little bit more competitive. This is because three-time fittest woman on earth Tia-Clair Toomey has never placed above 6th in the CrossFit Open. The poll still favors Toomey at 44 percent,
Other active athletes with an Open win under their belts are Annie Thorisdottir, who won in 2015, Cassidy Lance-McWherter in 2018, and notably Jamie Greene in 2016, who made her first CrossFit Games podium finish this year.
My favorites? Thanks for asking. On the men’s side will be Matt Fraser, followed by BK Gudmundsson. On the women’s side, I think Tia-Clair Toomey will still lag behind the crowd. She’s just not a CrossFit Open-driven athlete. My favorites will be Sara Sigmundsdottir, Dani Speegle, and Jamie Greene.
