CrossFit Dogs, Confused Magazines, Boxing and CrossFit

-

I see some CrossFit dog cuteness in your future. Outside Magazine has always been hyper-critical of CrossFit, hear what they have to say now. And, a major boxing blogger swears by CrossFit as a training compliment.

Good morning and welcome to the WODDITY podcast for news about CrossFit. We are a daily podcast, Monday through Friday, doing CrossFit news in five minutes or less.

My name is Ben Garves and today is Wednesday, the 29th of January, 2020.

Let’s start with an icebreaker. FitnessVolt published a story called 7 Reasons To Have a CrossFit Boyfriend. Frankly, I’m offended. There are AT LEAST eight reasons.

Tesla the Mini Aussie has taken Instagram by storm for how she participates in CrossFit workouts. Watch her videos using the link in our show notes, or even check out my Aussie Beaumont doing burpees with me in a Wyoming ghost town last summer.

Outside Magazine, who’s 2015 public flouncing of CrossFit as cult-like has gone down in the community as heresy has delved into the sport again, this time with an article titled, “Greg Glassman’s Easy Health Care Fix: More CrossFit” and the subtitle “Anyone who disagrees is an ‘obvious idiot’”. I don’t know, man. I’m as confused by their articles as you are. Do they hate us? Do they like us? Do they even know? You can read it if you want to. They paint Glassman, the Founder and Chairman of CrossFit as somewhat of a czar with a hot temper and who likes to use racy words. I don’t think it was flattering. I’m curious to hear your thoughts. Is Outside onboard, or are they continuing to hate on the success of the sport?

In political news…okay. Let’s not touch that with a ten-foot barbell. I’ll give you the spark notes: Senator Tulsi Gabbard, while campaigning in New Hampshire, was challenged to a push-up contest and won. Like her or hate her, she IS good at push-ups.

Round By Round Boxing, a blog for..well…boxing, wrote a really cool story about how CrossFit is the perfect complimentary training program for boxers. They cite that staying generally physically prepared is a great way to avoid injuries while you train for your next fight.

Men’s Health has also weighed in on the sport this week, talking about a guy who did Murph every day for thirty days. Let’s just say his body saw some changes for the better. Let’s do the math. That’s 60 miles of running, 3000 pull-ups, 6000 push-ups, and 9000 air squats.

Murph was actually a hot topic this week. Suzy Goodwin at Thrive Global did a Murph Monday every week for 24 weeks. How does she feel about it? Awesome. She said after doing it about 15 times, she no longer feared it and eventually learned to look forward to the dang thing. Kudos, Suzy!

Danica Patrick, the NASCAR driver, GoDaddy.com legend, podcast host, and the person put in charge of Aaron Rogers (by marriage) has been a long-time advocate of CrossFit. She added some snow angels to her CrossFit workout the other day. Check it out in our show notes or at WODDITY.com.

Oh, and this CrossFit thing. Guess what was the most Googled new year’s resolution in twelve states? Yes. It was the “c” word. CrossFit was the top search in Alaska, Idaho, Washington, Utah, Texas, Louisiana, Illinois, Tennessee, North and South Carolina, Florida, and New York. On the sad side of things, Mississippi’s top search was “fat transfer” and Washington DC’s was “liposuction”.

And that’s it for news about CrossFit for Wednesday, January 29th. Thanks for listening. Please be sure to rate, review, subscribe, and share. For WODDITY, I’m Ben Garves. We’ll chat tomorrow.
