5 Stories to Follow, How to Watch the CrossFit® Filthy150

-

The CrossFit Filthy150 will be an action-packed start to the 2020 CrossFit Sanctionals season, with many stories to watch. The three-day event will run November 22 – 24 at Punchestown Racecourse.

This is the fast-growing event’s sixth venue in seven years. Its 450-acres of countryside present the Sanctional with many ways to get the athletes outdoors.

How to Watch the Filthy150

Friday’s events start with elite athletes at 2:00 PM GMT, which allows Americans to watch at 7 PM (Central). WODDITY will be hosting live streams of elite individual competitions on our YouTube channel:

The 5 Stories to Follow

1. The International Online Qualifier

This will be the first event with athletes sourced through the International Online Qualifier. Keep an eye on how these athletes perform against athletes receiving one of Filthy150’s special invites. For example, Dan Bailey and Kristin Holte have received invites, while Jacob Heppner and Emelia Leppanen have earned their tickets through the qualifier.

Inviting athletes allows Sanctionals to tease a roster of popular athletes, but qualifiers allow new and upcoming athletes to perform on a bigger stage.

2. Injuries – Sam Briggs and James Newbury

Because of injuries, both Samantha Briggs and James Newbury were unable to finish the 2020 CrossFit Open. With only weeks to go, we are asking if they have significant time to heal and prepare.

  • Newbury’s list of biking injuries should still need more time to heal. We expect him to withdraw before the event.
  • Briggs has mentioned on social media she has a chance of competing. As a former Games champion, even an injured Samantha Briggs has potential to rank among the best on any competition floor.

3. Dan Bailey’s Return

Fans are anxious for the return of Dan Bailey, who made four consecutive CrossFit Games appearances from 2012 to 2015. After withdrawing from the 2017 Central Regional with a pectoral tear, Bailey tore a quadriceps tendon during the 2018 CrossFit Open. Since then, he’s been on a long road to recovery.

CrossFit Filthy150 announced in September that Dan Bailey would return to elite individual competition at their event.

4. Roman Khrennikov

One could argue Roman Khrennikov is the fittest man to never compete at the CrossFit Games. He qualified in 2018 as the champion of the Europe Regional, 2019 as the Fittest Man in Russia and took the top spot at the CrossFit Italian Showdown that season. Unfortunately, visa troubles both years have prevented him from traveling to Madison.

5. Fresh Talent from Teams

CrossFit Filthy150 has announced one special invite to a team:

Carol-Ann Reason-Thibault, Jen Smith, Craig Kenney and Paul Tremblay as members of Team Nation.

The next-most experienced team is ROMWOD Meat Squat, helmed by Brooke Haas. Beyond those two elite crews, the field is wide open and ready for a breakout from some lesser-known talent.

Other invite athletes to watch: Lukas Esslinger, Adrian Mundweiler, Chandler Smith, Thuri Helgadottir, Matt McLeod, Sean Sweeney, Jonne Koski, Kristin Holte

Other qualifier athletes to watch: Emelia Leppanen, Steph Chung, Meg Reardon, Cheryl Nasso, Jean-Simon Roy-Lemaire, Jacob Heppner, Cedric Lapointe
