WODDITY Podcast: 2020 CrossFit Games Cuts, CrossFit Injuries

  • Good morning and welcome to the WODDITY podcast for news about CrossFit. This podcast is sponsored by WODDITY’s state of the affiliate survey, sharing best practices between affiliates, totally free of charge. If you own an affiliate or know an affiliate owner, ask them to participate today at WODDITY.com. My name is Ben Garves and today is Tuesday, the13th of August, 2019.
  • Armen Hammer of Armen Hammer TV reported yesterday that he spoke with Greg Glassman about athlete cuts in the 2020 CrossFit Games. Those cuts will not follow the example set by the 2019 CrossFit Games, where athletes were cut after only one event. Glassman told Armen Hammer that cuts in 2020 will occur after one and a half days of competing. This would be after three classic CrossFit-style events. Athletes will be cut based on the cumulated time it took to complete those workouts.
    • This is the same format as the 2008 CrossFit Games as documented by the first CrossFit documentary, Every Second Counts.
    • This is a significant shift from the 2019 season, as we already know more about the next CrossFit Games than we did at this time last year.
  • Today on WODDITY.com/news we published an article about CrossFit injury rates. In total, it was found that CrossFit is more safe than the aggregate of 25 NCAA collegiate sports. With an average of 3 injuries per thousand hours, it’s almost three times more safe than sports like wrestling, football, basketball, and gymnastics.
  • CrossFit’s official workout of the day today is:
    • 7 rounds for time of:
    • Lunge 20 feet in as few steps as possible. But count your steps, because…
    • After each round, perform 5 seconds of L-sit and 10 double-unders for each step taken — e.g., if it takes 6 lunge steps, L-sit for 30 seconds and complete 60 double-unders before starting the next round.
  • And that’s it for news about CrossFit for Tuesday, August 13th. Make sure your affiliate owner takes the free independent affiliate survey at WODDITY.com.

  • I’m Ben Garves – see you tomorrow.
