Recent revelations help us gather a much more clear picture of the Reebok Nano 9 and its release date. Beyond a few image leaks and a release date range, there was previously very little known about the upcoming shoe.
UPDATE April 30 – Reebok has built a sign-up form for release details about the Reebok Nano 9. Release is imminent and you can follow them here.
Reebok Muddies the Waters
Reebok creates some confusion as to potential shoe leaks by continuing to release new spinoff models and colors (called ‘colorways’).
There’s also been gorwing doubt about the future of a Reebok-CrossFit partnership. Reebok is currently the official apparel partner and title sponsor of the CrossFit Games. CrossFit filed a lawsuit in 2018, accusing the manufacturer of skirting royalty payments to the fitness organization.
As recently as March 5th, Reebok released a new color collection they’ve titled “Everyday Heroes”. The collection is available in the Reebok Nano 2, Nano 4, Reebok Nano 6, and Nano 8. The line is designed to pay homage to the everyday heroes in the world, like teachers and coaches.

Teams at Reebok have been busy since the broad release of the Reebok Nano 8 in January of 2018. The company has also partnered with four-time Fittest Man on Earth Rich Froning. Together, they’ve designed and built The Froning Collection, which includes the Reebok Froning 1 (RF1) CrossFit shoe. The RF1’s release date of November 2018 caused some confusion. The company has a tendency to release the Reebok Nano every year in January.
Side note: Froning hinted in a question and answer session during the 2019 WOD on the Waves cruise that he continues to work with Reebok on a potential Froning RF2.
Reebok Nano 9 Release Date
Possibly because of the Reebok Froning 1’s release in November, Reebok has pushed the Nano 9 release date to mid-year. This is where information online gets a little spotty. We’ve seen specific claims of a release date in May, June, and “summer, before the CrossFit Games.”
To clarify: the CrossFit Games are in August of 2019. This sets the launch window for the Nano 9 to be in the four months between May and August.
Reebok Nano 9 Features
So far, we’ve seen one quality and two passable images of a potential Reebok Nano 9. They give us a rough idea as to what the shoe should look and feel like.
First, Reebok has taken the Flexweave design introduced the Reebok Nano 8 to the next level in the Nano 9. Flexweave material wraps a significant portion of the shoe and implies a much more flexible (yet durable) design.
At the same time, the mid-sole of the shoe borrows from the much-beloved Reebok Nano 6. The interior booty build looks to mimic what fans loved about the comfort of the Reebok Nano 8.
Anchoring notable features, the Reebok Nano 9 also features a much more prominent heel bump. It’s possibly to combat the popularity of the bump on Nike Metcon shoes. A heel bump is used to provide a gliding surface in inverted activities, like the handstand push-up.
Pictures of the Reebok Nano 9
We’ll continue to update these graphics as we gather more. So far, we have a great picture of the Nano 9 in blue. We’ve also located an image of the Nano 9 in development at Reebok headquarters.
Finally, an Instagram user claiming to have received a pair in black has posted a picture. We noticed the pair in black appears to have a slightly different toe design than the leaked Reebok Nano 9. That being said, we can confirm it does not adhere to the design of any existing Reebok CrossFit shoe. It may indicate the shoe is a version of the Nano 9 or some other shoe in development.
