Queenslander Tia-Clair Toomey is the fittest women in the world…quite literally.
The 25-year-old weightlifter and CrossFit athlete claimed gold in the women’s 58kg category at the Commonwealth Games in April on the Gold Coast.
It was just the third Commonwealth Games gold medal for Australia in weightlifting, the first in 12 years.
She made a snatch of 87kg and a clean & jerk of 114kg for a total lift of 201kg.
It was a phenomenal achievement after Toomey considered pulling out of the Games after the tragic death of her teenage cousin.
Later in the year, she took our her second consecutive CrossFit Games title to be crowned the “Fittest women on Earth”.
Toomey won three out of the 14 events but was consistent throughout and finished outside the top 10 once to beat rookie Laura Horvath.
In the Madison Triplus, she beat the entire men’s field by almost a minute in a 500m swim, 1,000m paddle and 2,000m run.
