Earlier today, the 16th CrossFit Games sanctioned event (qualifier) was announced and it appears that it will be taking place in Columbus, Ohio at Rogue Fitness’ Headquarters. In the press release sent to us from Rogue Fitness, they write that the Rogue Invitational will take place over a two day period on May 18th and 19th.

This competition will have an online qualification period and will host 20 male and female athletes, along with ten teams. The winners of each category will earn a ticket to the 2019 CrossFit Games, along with a $50,000 USD payout for the top male and female athletes. In the press release Rogue Fitness writes,

“Invitees will include the Top 10 male and female finishers from the 2018 Reebok CrossFit
Games, along with a select number of additional athletes from the top ranks of the sport. The final competition spots will be filled via an online qualifier.”

The release of the Rogue Invitational marks the 16th announced qualifier for the 2019 CrossFit Games. If you’ve been following along with all of the 2019 CrossFit Games change reports, then you’re probably realizing that a lot of the reports have said there will be 16 formal CrossFit sanctioned events, but we’re still not exactly sold on that number.

Let’s address the elephant in the room, but out of the 16 announced qualifiers, there have been none set to take place in Canada, and that’s got us wondering if there actually will be more than 16 sanctioned events.

After all, Canada has a very strong CrossFit community and has had multiple athletes place in the top three at the Games in recent years (ex: Brent Fikowski and Patrick Vellner). If CrossFit is trying to include every community across the globe, then it only makes sense that Canada hosts at least one qualifier, right?
